Chapter 14: Moods and Tendencies
In Chapter 14 Krishna describes three tendencies found in human behavior. One tendency promotes clarity. Another promotes restlessness. A third promotes laziness and confusion. These tendencies influence thought and action.
Arjuna learns that he can observe these tendencies and choose which ones to strengthen. The tendency of clarity grows through learning, discipline and sincerity. The tendency of restlessness grows through excessive desire and distraction. The tendency of confusion grows through carelessness and neglect.
Young people can observe how these tendencies appear in their routines. A clear morning routine may help the mind stay focused. Constant switching between tasks may increase restlessness. Lack of sleep may create confusion.
Krishna’s teaching encourages understanding these tendencies without judgment so that one can make wiser choices.
