Importance of Ekadashi Vrat

In Hinduism, the Ekadashi fast is considered highly auspicious. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this fast falls on the 11th day of both the waxing and waning phases of the lunar month. It is believed that observing Ekadashi helps in attaining moksha (liberation) and erasing all sins. Each month has two Ekadashi days, each with its own significance and rules.

Ekadashi Dates in April 2025

Kamada Ekadashi 2025

According to the Hindu calendar, the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase) Ekadashi of the Chaitra month will begin on April 7 at 8:00 PM and end on April 8 at 9:12 PM. Considering the udaya tithi (rising date), the fast for Kamada Ekadashi will be observed on April 8, 2025.

Varuthini Ekadashi 2025

The Krishna Paksha (waning phase) Ekadashi of the Vaishakha month will begin on April 23 at 4:43 PM and conclude on April 24 at 2:32 PM. As the udaya tithi holds special importance in Hindu rituals, Varuthini Ekadashi will be observed on April 24, 2025.

Ekadashi Vrat Rituals

– The fast begins from the night of the Dashami (10th day). On this day, avoid eating after sunset.
– On the day of Ekadashi, wake up early during Brahma Muhurta, take a holy bath, and wear clean clothes.
– Install an image or idol of Lord Vishnu in the home temple and perform Abhishekam (ritual bath) with sacred Ganga water.
– Offer incense, lamps, food offerings, and fruits. Take the vow to observe the fast.
– Chant Lord Vishnu’s Vedic mantras and recite Vishnu Sahasranama (1000 names of Vishnu) while engaging in devotional songs and prayers.
– Stay awake at night in Jagar (vigil) to keep the spiritual focus.
– On the following day, after taking a bath, perform worship of Lord Vishnu, offer food to Brahmins, and make charitable donations. Conclude the fast with Paaran (breaking the fast).

The Ekadashi fast holds immense spiritual importance in Hinduism. It is one of the best ways to please Lord Vishnu and seek his blessings. Observing this fast brings numerous benefits, including the eradication of sins, fulfillment of desires, and purification of both body and mind. This sacred ritual not only strengthens faith but also promotes inner peace and spiritual growth.
