Holika Dahan 2025: Timing and Auspicious Muhurat Despite the Shadow of Bhadra

In Hindu tradition, Holika Dahan is celebrated on the eve of Holi, marking the victory of good over evil. This festival is observed with great enthusiasm across the country and symbolizes the burning away of negativity. The celebration is rooted in the story of Prahlad, a devoted follower of Lord Vishnu, who was saved from the fire when his father, the demon king Hiranyakashipu, attempted to kill him by using his sister Holika, who was granted a boon of being immune to fire. However, by divine intervention, Prahlad remained unharmed while Holika perished in the flames.

This year, Holika Dahan will be marked on the evening of March 13, but it will be under the influence of Bhadra, a time considered inauspicious for performing important rituals. Here’s a look at the timing and auspicious period for Holika Dahan:

Falgun Purnima Shubh Muhurat

According to the Vedic Panchang, Falgun Purnima will begin on March 13 at 10:35 AM and continue until 12:23 PM on March 14. On March 13, devotees will observe the Purnima Vrat, and on March 14, the celebration of Holi will take place.

Bhadra Timing During Holika Dahan

Astrological calculations indicate that Bhadra, an inauspicious period, will last from 10:35 AM to 11:26 PM on March 13. During this time, auspicious activities, including Holika Dahan, should not be performed.

Auspicious Timing for Holika Dahan

The most favorable time for performing Holika Dahan will be from 11:26 PM to 12:30 AM on March 13. This period, lasting for 64 minutes, is considered the most auspicious for the ritual.
