Chapter 5: Freedom Through Responsibility
In Chapter 5 Krishna addresses a common misunderstanding. Arjuna wonders whether giving up responsibility brings peace. Krishna clarifies that peace comes from performing one’s duty without becoming entangled in excessive desire or fear.
Krishna explains that when a person performs actions as part of their responsibility, without constant anxiety about results, the mind becomes lighter. The work continues, but the burden reduces.
Young people often confuse freedom with escape. Avoiding commitments may feel like freedom, but it usually increases worry. Taking responsibility steadily, while keeping the mind calm, brings a deeper sense of relief.
Krishna also teaches the value of maintaining inner calm while engaging with the world. Peace is not found by running away from life. It is found by acting with balance and clarity.
Chapter 5 shows Arjuna that freedom is an inner state that grows through right action, not by avoiding action.
