Kalashtami 2026: Worship Lord Bhairav to Overcome Fear, Negativity, and Life’s Obstacles

Kalashtami, also known as Kala Ashtami, is a significant Hindu observance dedicated to Lord Bhairav, a fierce form of Lord Shiva. It is observed every month on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha and holds special importance for devotees seeking protection and strength.

Lord Bhairav is considered the guardian of time (Kala) and the protector of devotees. Worshipping Him on Kalashtami is believed to remove fear, negative energies, and obstacles from life.

Among all Kalashtami observances, the most significant one is Kalabhairav Jayanti, which falls in the month of Margashirsha according to the North Indian Purnimanta calendar and in the month of Kartik according to the South Indian Amanta calendar. Despite the difference in month names, both traditions celebrate it on the same day. It is believed that Lord Shiva manifested as Bhairav on this auspicious occasion.

An important aspect of Kalashtami fasting is its connection with nighttime worship. According to religious texts, the fast should be observed on the day when Ashtami Tithi prevails during the night. In some cases, the fast may be observed on Saptami if Ashtami overlaps with nighttime.

On this day, devotees begin with a ritual bath and take a vow to observe the fast. They maintain fasting throughout the day and perform special puja in the evening or at night. Offerings such as oil lamps, black sesame seeds, mustard oil, and sweets are made to Lord Bhairav.

Feeding dogs is considered highly auspicious on Kalashtami, as dogs are believed to be the vehicle of Lord Bhairav. This act is seen as a way to please the deity and receive His blessings.

Chanting the mantra “Om Kalabhairavaya Namah” and reciting the Kalabhairav Ashtakam are believed to protect devotees from negative influences and grant courage and strength.

Kalashtami is not just about rituals—it is a day to overcome inner fears and negativity. It teaches the importance of courage, discipline, and faith. Devotees believe that sincere worship of Lord Bhairav brings protection, stability, and success.

In today’s fast-paced and stressful world, Kalashtami offers a spiritual way to find inner strength and peace. It encourages individuals to face challenges with confidence and trust in divine protection.

Kalashtami is a powerful observance that symbolizes strength, protection, and transformation. By worshipping Lord Bhairav with devotion, one can overcome obstacles and lead a more balanced and fearless life.
